Roaming  Far & Wide

10min 30 sec. 2023

I was involved with Roaming CIC for about 10 years, up til the end of 2023, when Roaming CIC had its farewell event.  For several years initially I was an invited artist, and would occasionally join the group which met in Penzance, Cornwall. My role evolved into becoming the cook (a vegan lunch being quite an important part of the day at our weekly gatherings!) and assistant facilitator. Part of my remit was to edit video, mainly from footage captured by Roaming members - AKA The Roamers. Together we produced quite a number of short films which were all quite unique in character, reflecting the diverse voices of the Roamers.

This video is a medley of excerpts from some of these films.

What Roaming CIC was about :

'Roaming is a small, hardy perennial not-for-profit arts company. Its official goal is "to carry on creative activities that benefit the community and in particular (without limitation) people who find themselves in some way disadvantaged, excluded or vulnerable." Our values are really our common ground: confidentiality, integrity, fairness, respect for the values and culture of others, the withholding of judgement, inclusivity, flexibility, and equity in relationships. Most Thursdays, we provide a place to meet, draw, paint, chat, plan – and change. You might think of roaming a metaphor for experimenting, being curious without quite knowing where you are going. There is a safe, accessible, well-lit space with tables and simple materials; there are no specified goals, and no judgements. We make drawings and paintings, a lot of observations, lunch…and always discoveries.'
