When the wind blows.
8 pinhole camera set up for a 3 month period, before, during and after the construction of an 11.5 KW wind turbine, on one of the fields on the farm in Cornwall where I live. This project came along with a good deal of angst from the seemingly endless conundrums around energy, land use and the ever present 'sustainibility'.
This series of images was originally intended to be included in Holding Movements 3: imagining the farm, which was exploring the drivers of landscape preferances and agricultural aesthetics, but for various reasons I elected not to include in the presentation at Helston Museum.
The map show the positions of the camers in the 15 acre field. The cross marks the spot of the turbine, which did not really register on any of the these images.
The title 'When the Wind Blows' refers to a 1982 graphic novel by Raymiond Briggs which told the story of an elderly British British couple , who live in the countryside and with the help of Govt pamphlets build a shelter and prepare for an impending nuclear attack, unaware that times and the nature of war have changed from their romantic memories of World War II.
